A satellite based method for the retrieval of earth’s surface reflectance has been presented. The method is applicable to tropical environment. Data from the advanced very high resolution radiometer (AVHRR) sensor, carried by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) polar orbiter satellite of USA, have been used for this study. Using this method, surface reflectance for Bangladesh has been estimated for one year. The seasonal variation of the reflectance values, for different surface features, have also been studied. It is seen that there is a significant change in reflectance values for different areas of Bangladesh with seasonal variations.
