Title: Wind-PV Hybrid Power System For A Base Transceiver Station At Kutubdia

The island Kutubdia of Bangladesh is rich with both solar and wind energy resources. Local electricity generation infrastructure of Bangladesh Power Development Board is inadequate for the community of about I lac. To serve the telecommunication facilities among the people a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) is required to be installed at this remote island. Measured wind speed and predicted solar radiation show that there is a potential of a Wind-PV hybrid power system application. A hybrid power source could be reliable and cost effective, as the energy options compensate each other minima. The analysis shows that for a feasible and optimized Wind-PV-Battery system (comprised with 5 kW PV, 3pc WES Tulipo-5 wind turbine, 52pc Trojan T-105 battery and 2 kW converter) for a BTS, cost of electricity per kW is 22.78 Tk, in which 62% power comes from wind and the remaining from PV. The analysis was done using a simulation tool HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewables) developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), USA.
